Righteousness (Traditional Mandarin Glyph)

We had Sadie's B-Day Party at our favourite Chinese Restaurant.  We have known the owners for many years.  The food is great and it is reasonable.

Last year, I was searching for a graphic to illustrate righteousness and stumbled across a Mandarin symbol that means the lamb over me equals righteousness.  I thought that was neat, but you need verification.

So, I left it on the back burner of my mind until I met a Chinese missionary in Oct at a missions conference.  In talking with him, I not only received verification, but he told me of a book that is in print describing how Mandarin itself bears testimony of God and salvation.  That is the background to the events that left me jumping up and down after dinner.

Sadie has a desire to learn Chinese (Mandarin).  I used this as a starting point and downloaded Mandarin Bible to my phone.  I ask the owners of the restaurant to read it so that Sadie could hear as I copied the Glyphs and made notes.   After some time, I mentioned righteousness and quickly found Genesis 15:6  Where it speaks of Abraham,  "And he believed in the LORD; and he counted it to him for righteousness."

I pointed to the symbol and ask what it meant.  The owner's wife quickly retrieved a German/Mandarin Dictionary and found the Glyph.  It said that is meant righteousness - a deep meaningful relationship based on adoption.

I again pointed to the glyph as it has two parts; an upper and a lower and ask what it represents.  She couldn't follow me.  I then covered the bottom of the glyph with my thumb and ask what is that?  She shook her head, so I covered the top and she said that represents me, I or Ego.  I then covered the bottom again and ask, "could that be a lamb?"

With a mixture of astonishment and joy she squealed, "yes!!! It is a lamb!  Look husband, it is a lamb."  I then interjected the lamb over me is righteousness.  Jesus is the lamb.  Mandarin is teaching us to trust the lamb as he gives us righteousness.  I then excitedly shared with her John 3:16 from the Mandarin Bible.  And she said, "I believe in Jesus, the lamb!" with a smile and laughing.
