It is the simple things that we overlook which God chooses to use.

“And the Loʀᴅ said unto him, What is that in thine hand? And he said, A rod.” Ex. 4,2

This verse reminds us that God uses simple things to facilitate his will.  The question is, are we available and faithful to allow God to use what is in our hand.

We are forever striving to be more effective; searching for the next open door or opportunity.

As a child watching Westerns, playing Cowboys and Indians, the art of knot tying was fascinating.  Sitting down one afternoon, without instruction, the urge to learn how to tie a noose like the ones so often observed in the classic Westerns became overwhelming.  Naturally, my parents were not so impressed with this newly acquired knowledge, but I was hooked.  No pun intended.

Twice a year we build our Festival stand and it requires several different knots.  Chelli has even bought books to feed my appetite for new knots.

After the city festival, the thought of using this fascination for evangelism became a quest.  With the purchase of some paracord and a good perusing of the knot books and the internet, ideas started to gel.  After making several bracelets, my mother came to visit us.  She ask me to make her a necklace with a 6-pointed-star-knot.  As I tied the knot, verses and symbols of salvation sprang to mind. The six pointed star is made of two converging triangles. The one triangle represents God the father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.  The other represents man's body, soul, and spirit.  David foretold of Christ and the star of David is a physical representation of Christ being God and Man.  Jesus clearly stated that he and the Father are one.  He then preached that man must repent and believe on him for forgiveness and eternal life.  The necklace needed a means to connect the star to the necklace.  There were six strands coming out of the side of the star.  Two then formed a double noose knot.  Representing the death to self through repentance and faith in Christ for salvation.

This simple fascination lended itself as a evangelistic tool 5 times during the last week of my mother’s visit.  I have lost count since then.  God uses what we have in our hands.  What is in your hand?

One of the ladies suggested making the same knot as a door decoration.  After seeing it hang on our door she asked for one for her door.  “I want to tell my friends about Christ”, she said.

In addition to our knots, we also passed out nearly a thousand tracts at “Night of Lights” here in Wittenberg.  It is exciting to see people get evolved in witnessing!
